How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you prefer to make your own homemade chocolate chip cookie dough here’s an easy recipe from an old cookbook that was published in 1929, that makes about 50 cookies

1/4 pound (115 g) butter
1/2 cup (1dL) dark brown sugar
1/2 cup (100 g) white granulated sugar
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/8 cup (155 g) all-purpose white flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup (1/4 L, 6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup (1 dL) chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and grease some cookie sheets. Cream the butter, then gradually add the two sugars, beating until light and smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Mix the flour, salt and baking soda together and add to the first mixture, blend well. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto the  cookie sheets about 1 inch apart and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Tip; If you prefer not to use nuts, use 1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal instead.
